FAQ

What is the New Audiences Experience?

Starting in 2024, we began updating the mParticle segmentation experience to make it more intuitive and easier to navigate. As part of this effort, on March 20th, 2025, we merged two features in the mParticle UI: Real-Time Audiences and Journeys.

This new, unified experience is called the “New Audiences Experience”. The old, separated experience is called the “Classic Audiences Experience”. The unified Audiences Experience makes it easier than ever to create dynamic user segments before forwarding them to your downstream marketing integrations.

To summarize:

  • The New Audiences Experience is a change in the mParticle user interface that offers a combination of the old mParticle features called Real-Time Audiences and Journeys.
  • The Classic Audiences Experience is the previous version of the UI that offers Real-Time Audiences and Journeys as separate features.

Where can I find the New Audiences Experience?

The New Audiences Experience is enabled by default for all mParticle accounts. To access the New Audiences Experience:

  1. Using the left-hand navigation, hover your mouse over Segmentation and select Audiences.

Can I still use the Classic Audiences Experience?

Yes. You can continue using the Classic Audiences Experience until April 21, 2025.

However, we encourage using the New Audience Experience because all new features and improvements will only be available in this version.

How do I go back to the Classic Audiences Experience?

To switch back to the Classic Audiences Experience:

  1. Using the left-hand navigation, hover your mouse over Segmentation and select Audiences.
  2. At the top of the page, you will see “You are viewing:” followed by “New Experience” or “Classic Experience”.
  3. Hover your mouse over “New Experience” and click Go to Classic Experience to return to the previous version.
  4. You will be asked to share feedback before going to the Classic Experience. Any feedback you have is very helpful as we continue to improve the mParticle UI!

Where can I find Standard Audiences?

Standard Audiences are available in the Classic Audiences Experience. In a future release later this year, Standard Audiences will be added to the New Audiences Experience.

To access Standard Audiences:

  1. Using the left-hand navigation, hover your mouse over Segmentation and select Classic Audiences > Standard Audiences.

Why are we switching to a unified Audiences experience?

The new, unified version of Audiences provides several benefits:

  • Centralized control of your audiences: the new experience removes the need to continually switch between Real-time Audiences and Journeys.
  • Fewer decisions: the classic experience requires you to make too many selections from several confusion options when creating audiences. The new experience presents simple, easy-to-understand options to get you creating and engaging audiences in no time.
  • New features: access to new segmentation features and improvements. By consolidating our segmentation features, we will be able to build and release new features faster than before, passing the benefits directly to you.

The new, unified Audiences also provides new features not available in the classic experience:

  • Enhanced Audience Estimates: mParticle automatically calculates and displays more precise membership estimates in the new experience.
  • Audience Insights: you can access helpful stats such as size trends, overlaps, and audience composition info directly in the UI.
  • Audience Funnel Analytics: look at funnel statistics superimposed directly in the audience editor.
  • Upgraded Landing Page: customize which columns you see in the UI, allowing for faster load-times, advanced sorting/filtering, tags, and more.

What is the timeline to transition to the New Audiences Experience?

We understand that learning new tools and workflows can be challenging, so we’re giving everyone extra time to adjust to the new experience before removing the Classic experience.

Following is an overview of the transition timeline:

  • On March 20, 2025, we enabled the New Audiences experience as the default experience for all mParticle accounts.
  • For 30 days you will be able to switch between the New and Classic Experiences.
  • On April 21, 2025, the Classic Audiences Experience will be deprecated and you will only be able to access the new experience.

Where can I share feedback?

Please submit feedback to us about the New Audiences Experience and this transition via the Feedback button in the mParticle UI, or reach out directly to your mParticle account representative.

Will this impact my billing?

In most cases, no. In the New Audiences Experience, you are only billed for audiences that you explicitly activate (whether they are connected to an output or not). You will not be billed for audiences with a status of “Calculated,” even though you can preview and get insights into audiences with this status. This is the same as in the Classic Real-Time Audiences Experience.

One benefit of the New Audiences Experience is that when you create a nested audience structure, you are only billed for audiences you explicitly activate or connect, not intermediate audiences mParticle needs to calculate to be able to activate the connected/activated ones. In the Classic Experience, you would be charged for all of them.
